# Customize request statuses

> Understand default request statuses and how they drive triage, roadmap, and the portal.

Statuses describe where a request is in your process—from new ideas through shipping or closing. Project Echo uses statuses on request details, the roadmap board, and (when enabled) the public portal.

## Default statuses

New workspaces include:

* **Pending** — New submissions waiting for triage
* **Reviewing** — Under consideration
* **Planned** — Accepted for a future release
* **In Progress** — Actively being built
* **Completed** — Shipped (can be linked to changelog entries)
* **Closed** — Not proceeding; hidden from the portal by default

Portal submissions start in **Pending** so your team can review them before they appear further along the workflow.

## Change a request’s status

You can update status in two places:

1. Open a request and use the status picker.
2. On **Roadmap**, drag a card into another status column.

Dragging on the roadmap is often the fastest way to triage a batch of items.

## What customers see

Under **Settings → Feedback portal → Visibility**, use **Statuses to show** to control each status:

* **Feedback only**
* **Roadmap only**
* **Feedback & Roadmap**
* **Hidden**

**Closed** is typically kept Hidden so customers focus on active work. **Completed** is the status used when linking shipped work to changelog posts.

## Add or archive statuses

If your workspace allows status management, you can add statuses that match your process or archive unused ones. You cannot archive a status that still has requests—move those requests first.

Keep the status list short and named in language customers understand when those columns appear on the portal roadmap.
