# How customers submit, vote, and comment

> Walk through the customer experience for submitting ideas, upvoting, and commenting.

This article describes what end users do on your portal. Share these steps with customers, or point them to your portal at `https://YOURSUBDOMAIN.projectecho.io`.

## Open the portal

Customers visit your portal URL (or your custom domain on Pro). What they can see depends on **Portal visibility**:

* **Publicly available** — Anyone can browse.
* **Members & team only** — Access is limited to teammates and members who reach the portal through your app or member access.
* **Hidden** — The portal is not available to visitors.

## Submit a request

1. Open the Feedback tab (title may be customized).
2. Choose the relevant board, if more than one is shown.
3. Create a request with a clear title and details.
4. Submit.

New portal submissions enter **Pending** so your team can triage them in [app.projectecho.io](https://app.projectecho.io) before they move further along the roadmap.

## Vote

Customers upvote requests they care about. Vote counts may appear on the Feedback tab, Roadmap, request page, or changelog linked items—depending on **Settings → Feedback portal → Voting**.

Voting helps your team see demand; it does not automatically change status.

## Comment

Comments require signing in as a teammate or opening the page with a portal member link/session. Without that access, customers see a prompt to sign in or use their member link.

Comments are the best place for clarifying details, use cases, and follow-ups. Your team can reply from the staff app.

## What customers should not expect

* Priority and Effort are usually staff-only unless you enable them for portal surfaces.
* Closed or Hidden boards/statuses do not appear publicly.
