# Request and member tags

> Create, edit, and assign request tags and member tags, then filter with them on Requests and Roadmap.

Tags help you organize feedback and customers without changing boards or statuses. Project Echo keeps two separate catalogs:

* **Request tags** — label individual requests (for example `API`, `Enterprise`, or `Quick win`)
* **Member tags** — label portal members (for example `VIP`, `Churn risk`, or `Design partner`)

A request tag cannot be assigned to a member, and a member tag cannot be assigned to a request. Names are unique within each kind using an exact match (`Big` and `big` can both exist as request tags). The same name can exist once as a request tag and once as a member tag.

Tags belong to the workspace. Any teammate can use tags created by someone else.

## Create request tags

1. Open **Settings → Feedback**.
2. Open the **Tags** tab (between **Boards** and **Scoring**).
3. Select **Create tag**.
4. Enter a name and choose a color (swatch or hex).
5. Select **Create**.

Tags are listed alphabetically. There is no manual reorder.

## Create member tags

1. Open **Settings → Members** (under the Product section of settings, below Feedback portal).
2. Stay on the **Tags** tab.
3. Select **Create tag**, then set the name and color.

The **Fields** tab on Members settings is reserved for future member fields.

## Edit or delete a tag

1. Open the relevant settings list (**Feedback → Tags** or **Members → Tags**).
2. Open the ⋯ menu on a tag.
3. Choose **Edit tag** to change the name or color, or **Delete tag** to remove it.

Deleting a tag removes it from every request or member it was assigned to. Activity history keeps the tag name that was used at the time.

If a name already exists for that kind, Project Echo shows an error such as “A request tag named Big already exists.”

## Add a tag to a request

1. Open the request detail page.
2. Open the ⋯ menu and choose **Add tag**.
3. Select a request tag, then **Add**.

Assigned tags appear in the right-hand meta panel under **Tags**. Hover a tag and select **×** to remove it from that request (the tag definition stays in settings).

If a request has no tags, the Tags section stays hidden until you add the first one.

### Bulk add on the requests list

1. On **Requests**, select multiple requests with the checkboxes.
2. In the bulk actions bar, choose **Add tag**.
3. Pick a request tag to apply to the selected requests.

## Add a tag to a member

1. Open **Members** and open a member profile.
2. Open the ⋯ menu and choose **Add tag**.
3. Select a member tag, then **Add**.

Member tags appear under the avatar on the profile. Hover and select **×** to remove a tag from that member.

Recent tag activity on the member profile shows who added or removed tags.

## Filter with tags (smart filter)

Use the **Tag** dimension in the smart filter on **Requests** and **Roadmap**.

1. Open the filter control.
2. Open **Tag**.
3. Select one or more **Request tags** and/or **Member tags**.

If your workspace has no tags of a given kind, that section is hidden. If there are no tags at all, the **Tag** filter option does not appear.

### How matching works

* **Request tags:** the request has any of the selected request tags.
* **Member tags:** the request’s **owner** is a portal member who has any of the selected member tags.
* When you select both kinds, results are combined with **OR**: requests that match the request-tag criteria **or** the member-tag criteria.

Tags are internal to the staff app. They are not shown on the public feedback portal.

## Tips

* Use request tags for theme or segment labels that cut across boards.
* Use member tags for account segments you want to filter by owner.
* Keep names short so badges stay readable in the meta panel and filters.
